Saudi saves boy from burning car in Canada

OTTAWA: A Saudi man saved the life of a 12-year-old boy when he pulled him from a wrecked car just moments after it burst into flames, the Ottawa Citizen, a newspaper in the Canadian capital, reported yesterday.
Yasser Alshunaif was returning home from a ceremony for Saudi students when he and a friend came across the accident. A father and his three children were trapped inside when the car erupted into flames.
A man’s voice rang out in the dark, warning Alshunaif to run from the burning car. Instead, he ran toward it. “I was shocked,” he said. “How do you want me to run away when a child was stuck there?”
The boy’s father and his two siblings had already been pulled from the wreckage with the help of a volunteer fireman. Alshunaif and his friend pried the back door open and freed the boy from the flaming car.
“His leg was stuck with the seatbelt, Alshunaif said. “He said, ‘Please, help me. Pull me! Pull me!”
Alshunaif, who was dressed only in a thobe with no jacket, retreated to his car after the rescue to escape Canada’s frigid winter temperatures.
