In what was seen as an authentic replica of the UN General Assembly, the 4th Peevees United Nations Simulation Conference-2014 was conducted at the Al-Yasmin International School Riyadh on Nov. 29.

The conference witnessed the participation of hundreds of students from 10 International schools across the Kingdom.

About 40 student delegates representing mock ambassadors of 12 countries including France, Italy, Russia, USA, Japan, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, China, Germany, South Africa and Portugal discussed the theme of the conference, entitled “Together for a better tomorrow” highlighting global issues and gaining valuable experience.

The finals for the Peevees UN Simulation Conference (PUNSC) witnessed intense discussions by student delegates on strategies and negotiations while they navigated the UN’s rules in the interest of mobilizing “international cooperation” to resolve problems affecting almost every country on earth as they participated in the mock conference.

Sri Lanka Ambassador Hussain Mohamed, accompanied by his wife Ayeshathul Muhriza Hussain was at the occasion as the chief guest.

Guests of honor included Barry McCaig, safety manager at Saudi Aviation Flight Academy and Ibrahim Subhan, an Indian official with the International Energy Forum, who appreciated the spirit of the participants and encouraged them to cover more grounds in the coming future.

The host modeled an exact replica of a UN session with vibrant colorful flags of different countries unfurled at the venue.

“The motto behind holding this annual UN simulation conference is to provide students with a platform to develop leadership skills and voice international concerns while providing a valuable research and learning experience for all participants,” said K. Rahmathullah, principal of Al-Yasmin School, here on Friday.

During the event, the student delegates prepared draft resolutions and strategies, negotiated with supporters and adversaries, resolved conflicts as they discussed issues under the topic ‘Economic Crises’ and ‘Environment Issues’ for the General Assembly and ‘Health, Peace and Security’ for the Security Council.

Enthusiastic aspirants from Al-Yasmin International School-Boys and Girls Section, Riyadh, Daratassalam International Delhi Public School, Riyadh, International Indian Public School, Riyadh, Modern International School, Riyadh, Al Khozama International School-Boys and Girls Section, Dammam, Dunes International School, Dammam, International Indian School, Dammam, New Al Wurood International School-Boys and Girls Section, Jeddah and Jabal Farsan International School, Rabigh registered their participation at the conference.
