The traffic congestion on Riyadh’s roads is being addressed by a special committee set up by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah.

Riyadh Gov. Prince Khalid bin Bandar said the committee consists of members from the Higher Commission for the Development of Riyadh and the municipality.

The prince said the committee was working with other government departments. He added that other projects are currently underway to ease the traffic congestion.

He said the commission was working on completing technical studies, tenders and budgets related to the Riyadh metro.

Prince Khalid made the comments on Monday when he launched the electronic board on King Abdul Aziz Highway overpass.

During his tour of the highway, the prince was shown the second stage of the project being implemented including a bridge, tunnel and a crossing. These developments are taking place between King Abdullah Highway and Abu Baker Al-Siddeeq Road, Othman bin Affaan Road and Khalid bin Al-Waleed Road.

The plan is to ensure there is smooth traffic on the highway, governed by advanced traffic systems and in line with environmental and economic criteria. The highway has been developed to accommodate the electronic rail network.

The prince was also shown the eastern side of the King Abdullah Highway, eight kilometers from the bridge, which will be completed in the coming six months. The other six kilometers will be completed at the end of the year.
