JEDDAH: Two women were injured when a fire broke out in the kitchen of an apartment building in Awali district around 1 p.m. on Friday.

Rescue units rushed to the site soon after receiving information and evacuated 15 people from the two-story building.

Control units discovered the source of the fire and put it out, said Major Naif Al-Sharif, official spokesman of Civil Defense in Makkah.

He said their primary inspection showed that the fire was caused by an air conditioner in the kitchen, which then spread in the vicinity around.

One of the women received treatment at the site from the Saudi Red Crescent’s ambulance and was allowed to go, while the other, who received first degree burns, was admitted to hospital.
