A worker was killed in a tragic accident in Makkah on Sunday when a hydraulic excavator fell on him during the demolition of a building.

The worker was working on the demolition of an old building in Ajyad in central Makkah when the tragedy happened, according to Civil Defense officials.

“After receiving information about a worker trapped in the rubble under a hydraulic excavator, Civil Defense rescue teams rushed to the spot but found that the worker was already dead,” Col. Saleh Al-Olayani, spokesperson of Civil Defense in Makkah said.

He told Arab News on Sunday evening that the dead body was removed from the debris by Civil Defense personnel and the case had been referred to the police for further investigation.
