MADINAH: The Saudi Electronic University, which aims to attract 100,000 students over the next 10 years, is designed to become a model institution for distance education, said its president Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz Al-Mousa.
Addressing an introductory meeting at Taibah University in Madinah, Al-Mousa explained his institution’s rules and regulations and its academic programs. He also answered the queries of students and teachers.
“Designed to substitute off-campus learning provided by Saudi universities, the services SeU renders will be more flexible in order to adapt to students’ life, work and location conditions,” Al-Mousa said. SeU has a target to enroll 6,000 students for its initial launch phase.
Speaking about SeU’s futuristic vision, the president said: “We want to become a pioneer in electronic education and contribute effectively toward strengthening the Kingdom’s economy and developing a knowledge-based society.”
State-of-the-art educational content with the most recent e-education methods will be used and pioneering knowledge will be transferred and localized in association with Saudi and international institutions and faculties.
SeU started accepting admission applications on July 25. Students can enroll in the university’s Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs and Al-Mousa said he expects 6,500 students, over 60 percent of them women, to enroll in the first semester.
The university offers studies in three faculties: Faculty of Administrative and Financial Sciences, Faculty of Computer and Information Technology and Faculty of Health Sciences.
Tuition fees for the Bachelor’s degree programs are SR 2,000 per semester and SR 9,000 per semester for the Master’s degree program. Studies will be conducted in Riyadh, Jeddah, Madinah and Dammam.
