Sleep High joined the elite roll of champions, winning the Inter-Company Group A title via a sweep of the best-of-three championship series against Powerhouse Sadafco while Al Tayar sent its series for the Inter-Company Group D crown with Printo Pack to a deciding third game in the 2012 Perfetto Basketball Tournament organized by Industrial Sports Association at the Industrial City Dawah Office (ICDO) court in Industrial City Phase I on the outskirts of Jeddah.
Sleep High used its dominance from the backcourt and strong defense to beat Sadafco 74-68 in the second game to complete the series sweep and clinch its first ever championship crown.
After the first half ended 41-37 to Sleep High, Sadafco tried to start strong in the third quarter with Poliquit, Binas and Banag stringing 13 points but Dellosa came up big yet again, hitting perfect from free-throw line and two jump shots to score 9 points and M. Calangin hit a three to close the third up by 11 points, 61-50.
Banag scored 11 of Sadafco’s 18 points in the fourth quarter but still this was not enough to stop Sleep High.
Cudal was named MVP and led Sleep High teammates Delio and Monteza to the mythical five selection along with Poliquit and Del Corro of Sadafco.
Tayar showed they were capable to play in the finals, holding off powerhouse Printo Pack 88-82 in the second game of the playoffs.
The coach and the star players like Aquino, Sandoval and Santiago delivered on their promise before the game that they will give it their best shot to level the series.
Tayar limited Printo Pack to only 19 while hitting 25 points in the first quarter but in the second, Tayar stars became ineffective, Printo Pack made a mini run, and Tayar’s lead was down to 4 points, 44-40.
Tayar nursed a 63-62 lead entering the fourth period in which Santiago, a true warrior who played in pain, made a key long three to increase Tayar’s lead. Santiago finished the night with 18 total points while Sandoval was named Best Player of the game, scoring 23 points including 10 in the final quarter.
In Inter-Company Group B , B-Cola tied the series 1-1 against SPS with an 82-74 win in the second game. Best Player Mangaliag led the scoresheet for B-Cola at 17 points.
