JEDDAH: The Jeddah Lifestylez Basketball League opened its 2014 JBL 2nd Jeddah Central Basketball Tournament last Friday at the Bin Mahfouz court in Andalus District here.

Participating teams paraded in their resplendent uniforms during the opening ceremony which JBL President Mohammed Rasheed Suyat and 2nd Jeddah Central Sports Committee headed by Marlon Obnial and Boy Raras presided. Vice Consul Rodney Janas L. Sumague of the Philippine Consulate General was the chief guest that attended the event along with Asst. Consul / Attache Hazel S.J. Manahan Mendoza, Philippine Welfare Officer – POLO-OWWA Amelito S. Adel, Ronald S. Reyes, Maria Victoria G. Demingoy, Angel Cruz and Bank Al Bilad – Enjaz Division Marketing Supervisor Turki Osama Turki.

The awards for the Best Team in uniform went to Al Salama Dos and the Best Team to Al Kaki.

In the opening game, Al Salamah 3 of Dante Malibiran beat Al Bawadi 1 52-29. Al Salamah 3 displayed excellent team work the whole game to defuse the Al Bawadi defense. Logatoc and Dizon top-scored with 14 points apiece for Al Salamah 3 and were adjudged as the Lifestylez best players of the game while Santos scored 13 points for Al Bawadi 1.

Al Kaki defeated Al Baladia 58-40. Al kaki played run and gun offense all game long. Baladia tried hard to put its rival at bay but then lost steam in the dying minutes of the final quarter. Coy Cabalu had 15 points for Kaki and was adjudged as the JBL Best Player of the game while Banadora led Baladia with 13 points.

JBC beat Al Salamah 2 63-52 in a highly contested opening match. Both teams played well. JBC applied tough defense to halt Al Salamah 2 offense in the fourth quarter and the plan paid well for JBC as Al Salamah 2 started to missed crucial baskets. Paclibar scored 20 points for JBC and was adjudged as the Lifestylez Best Player of the game while Bajas top-scored with 22 for Al Salamah 2.
