CINCINNATI: Rookie Taylor Jungmann allowed four hits in eight innings as the Milwaukee Brewers extended their winning streak to eight games with a 6-1 victory over the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday.

Gerardo Parra and Adam Lind hit seventh-inning home runs for the Brewers, who finished off their second undefeated road trip of at least seven games in club history.

It’s the Brewers’ longest winning streak since they won nine in a row in April 2014.

Jungmann (3-1) made his Major League Baseball debut on June 9. He retired the first 12 batters he faced before Jay Bruce led off the fifth with a double into the right-field corner.

Cincinnati starter Mike Leake (5-5) lost for the first time since May 27.

Elsewhere, Justin Verlander remained winless in four starts since his return from injury as Toronto topped Detroit 10-5; Gerrit Cole overcame a rocky start for his MLB-best 12th win as Pittsburgh beat Cleveland 5-3; and Jorge De La Rosa had six strikeouts to surpass 1,000 for his career as Colorado beat Phoenix 6-4.

Verlander (0-4) gave up seven runs as his ERA ballooned to 6.75 ERA in Detroit’s loss. He also had two walks and five strikeouts in five innings, needing 94 pitches to get 15 outs.

Jose Bautista and Justin Smoak homered in a six-run fifth inning against the 2011 American League Cy Young Award winner and Most Valuable Player.

Detroit reached the midpoint of the season at 41-40, its poorest record since a 39-42 mark for the first half in 2012.

Cole (12-3) set down his last 16 batters for Pittsburgh after the Indians scored twice in the second inning and once in the third to take a 3-0 lead. He threw 106 pitches, while allowing three runs and five hits in eight innings.

Andrew McCutchen’s two-run double capped a five-run fifth inning and Mark Melancon posted his National League-leading 27th save as the Pirates won for the fifth time in six games.

Troy Tulowitzki had a three-run homer to extend his hitting streak to 18 games and De La Rosa pitched six effective innings as Colorado avoided a four-game sweep.

Tulowitzki homered in the Rockies’ four-run first inning against Rubby De La Rosa (6-4) and Carlos Gonzalez added a two-run homer off the right-hander in the sixth.

De La Rosa (6-3) now has 1,005 strikeouts for his career.

In other games, Eric Hosmer drove in Lorenzo Cain with nobody out in the ninth inning, helping Kansas City beat Minnesota 3-2 for a split of their four-game series. Greg Holland (2-0) earned the win with a scoreless ninth inning.

Tampa Bay’s Erasmo Ramirez pitched out of early trouble in his latest effective outing against New York as the Rays topped the Yankees 8-1 to end their seven-game losing streak.

Alex Rodriguez hit his 670th home run, the only damage against Ramirez (7-3) in six innings. Yankees hitters entered the game 2 for 27 (.074) against the right-hander this year.

In Boston, Hanley Ramirez hit a go-ahead, two-run homer in the seventh inning as the Red Sox beat the Houston Astros 5-4.

Rookie outfielder Tommy Pham homered, doubled and drove in three runs, leading the St. Louis Cardinals over the San Diego Padres 3-1.

Los Angeles’ Albert Pujols hit his American League-leading 25th home run and Kole Calhoun homered and drove in four runs as the Angels finished a dominant three-game sweep of the Texas Rangers with a 12-6 victory.

Also, Baltimore routed the Chicago White Sox 9-1, Seattle beat Oakland 2-1, Philadelphia topped Atlanta 4-0 in 10 innings, the New York Mets defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 8-0, the Chicago Cubs beat Miami 2-0, and Washington completed a sweep of struggling San Francisco with a 3-1 win.
