Jun De Dios’ Cool Guys played true to form to the end and wrapped up the title in the Overseas Filipino Bowlers Club (OFBC) 4 + 1 Friday Afternoon League First Season at IN-10-SO lanes in Serafi Megamall here.

With a twice to beat edge after a No. 1 finish in the eliminations, Cool Guys were made to use up their advantage in the championship match after challenger Fed & AAA took the first game 754-735.

But that setback instead of discouraging De Dios and Co. only fired them up even more to win the decider 745-728, as Salic Mudag sparked a determined Cool Guys charge with 172.

Fittingly, Class D bowler De Dios with 7 Bowler of the Week awards under his belt was named the MVP along with Malou Nidoy on the ladies side and Eidris Mangoda, another bankable player on the champion Cool Guys team, clinched the individual award for high series scratch.

The other members of the champion team were Mac Galang, Med Ramos, George Mangaliman, Manny Tibay and Sol Cuenca.

The results of the stepladder final went according to seedings. In the first match between the two teams that joined the three outright finalists led by Cool Guys, The Youngsters beat Current Bowlers 785-733 to gain a crack at No. 3 RJ Transient Houses. This second match ended 748-694 to RJ and paved the way for the game between second-ranked Fed & AAA and RJ, which likewise went according to the form book with Fed winning by 719-699.

The championship match was set and Cool Guys denied the upset bid by Fed & AAA.

The awarding ceremony took place last Friday at Ice Land Bowling Center to bring down the curtain on this, the first project of the fledgling bowling group Overseas Filipino Bowlers Club Western Region which was a big success.

OFBC Commissioner Joel Nidoy announced the Afternoon League Season 2 will start May 17 at Ice Land Bowling Center. Nidoy thanked the OFBC officers, team captains, team managers and members for their support in ensuring success of the tournament. He also thanked Makatifoods through Robert Stone, Petromin Express through Jerry “Ka Imo” Carredo and 3P Stretch Company headed by Kais Ayadi and Mike Libatique for donating prizes of Nokia Asha mobile phones to the awardees and Samsung Galaxy Tablets to the MVPs, and Hani Al-Touki, IN-10-SO
