JEDDAH: D’ Barkads had to survive a close battle with Bank AlJazira Fawri to win their second Team of the Week award during the 12th session in the OSN-FTBJ 50th Open Conference bowling tournament at the Bowling City here.

The two-way race for honors ended with D’ Barkads winning by the slimmest of margins, 40 to 39.5 points, over AlJazira.

Fresh off back-to-back awards, Alfa Moe Yasser carded 35 points in a tie with Masaken, while Habagat tallied 30 points in fifth place on the night.

Three-time champion Sky Freight-OSN returned 25.5 points with MC Hammer half a point behind on 25.

BCT-Lutong Pinoy compiled 24 points while Xtreme-Taurus had 20. The last three teams to finish were Al Murjana 19, GBI-TBBGI 15 and Red Dragons 4 points.

Nonie Yap of Alfa Moe ruled the individual Bowler of the Week race after shooting the high series of 709 on lines of 257, 222 and 230.

D’ Barkads banked on their better overall output 3,185 to 3,074 for AlJazira to overhaul a slim .5 point lead by the latter after two games with both teams tied on 9.5 points in the third game.

Four players went the distance at D’ Barkads with Leo Edejer shooting the highest series of 665. Rudy Valenzuela tossed in 658, Romy Bunagan made 651and William Virgo 575. Gerry Tano posted 196-211 and Dan Ednave added 204.

Randy Mata and Atoi Cruz bowled big for AlJazira on 665 (278, 197 and 190) and 635 respectively. Ariel Urquia was the third player to complete a series on 616, while Jowet Carion came through with 176-171 and Lorenz Santos contributed 177.

Over at Alfa Moe the others that helped advance the team’s cause besides Yap were Yasser Hokbi 612, Danny Bautista 593, Abdul Mugawan 542, Obie Ycasas 200-198 and Cesar Monares 161.

Masaken had four players doing full games namely Ric Reformado 628, Rene Ocampo 622, Jimmy Mandingiado 621 and Jojie Manalansan 551. The remaining three games were shared by Jay Bengco 214-216 and Ding dela Rosa 176.

Habagat likewise took four to the limit, led by Richard Antonio on 653. Med Ramos came through with 622, Edu Toledo added 568 and Manny Tibay 566. Rommel Cagampang carded 228-190 and Jimmy Aragones had 156.
