RIYADH: Twelve teams will take part in the inaugural Al-Watani Cup Cricket Tournament, organized by the GK International Sports Club, to commemorate the Saudi National Day. All teams have been named after the different regions in the kingdom.

The teams will be divided into two groups and matches will be played on a league-cum-knockout basis, all of whom will be franchised by different firms.

Dr. Ghayas Ahmed, chairman of the club and Riyadh based senior medical practitioner, paid tributes to the kingdom on the occasion of national day.

He recollected the words of King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz calling India his second home.

“This kingdom of humanity is sheltering millions and is the second home to millions of expatriates,” he maintained.

Earlier, Mohammed Kaleem, general secretary of the club welcomed the guests and congratulated all the Saudi nationals and expatriates on the occasion of Youm Al-Watani, the Saudi National Day.

He also introduced Fahad Aali Dawi Alotaibi, Feroz Khan and Mir Muzzaffer Ali, the executive members of the club.

Fahad Aali Alothaibi said that this tournament will create interest among the Saudis.

“Saudi Arabia is a football loving country, but this type of tournament will one day help bring cricket to the national level,” he said.

All captains and managers of the teams were present on the occasion and given dress colors.
