JEDDAH: The Jeddah Cricket Association held a function to honor Arshad Ayub, president of the Hyderabad Cricket Association, and former India Test and one-day international, who was in Kingdom to perform umrah.

The function also marked the launching of the Saudi Premier League, which Ayub was the chief guest.

Arshad Ayub expressed his sentiments with a pledge to support JCA in whatever capacity that may be needed. Addressing the gathering, Ayub advised JCA to improve its standards, “The entire infrastructure and the sporting fields should be within the parameters of the globally recognized body in order to uphold the spirit of the game with all its norms, ethical values and principles”, he said.

Irfan, Munawwar dazzle

Tamer’s Mohammed Ayazuddin Irfan dazzled with the bat for his 112 runs against Sindh-XI to steer his team to a seven-wicket win during the fourth weekof the Ace Trave & Tours organized by the Jeddah Cricket Association.

In another match, Munawar’s unbeaten 92 runs helped IDB G-BEST rout Mazco-XI by eight wickets.

Debutants Kashmir Stags beat Huta Group by 27 runs, MB Stars had the better of Eirad Travel by 6 wickets. In the other matches, Al Khulais trounced Blossom by 51 runs and Jamoom Fighters prevailed over Kashmir XI by 7 wickets.

In the second division of the second week afternoon league matches, Peeran Warriors beat Shalimar by 6 wickets, AJA scored a thrilling two-wicket win over Saudi German Hospital, Peeran Hawks got the better of Peeran-XI by three wickets and Jeddah Shaheen gained a 7 wickets win over champion ICAD.
