The object of golf is not just to win, it is to play like a gentleman and win. This held true for Korean golfer Young Joo Kim, the overall champion in the recent BMW Intercontinental Golf Championship 2014 at the Palms Golf Club InterContinental Riyadh here.

A dedicated golfer who plays the game every day, Kim scored a net 58, two over par on the City Center layout and arguably one of his best rounds.

Kim was lucky to win the championship as three players also had 58 but during the countback the Korean prevailed and grabbed the crystal champion trophy and Callaway X2hot golf set.

The two days golfing gala attracted over 100 players of 15 different nationalities. Players from all over the Kingdom came down to Riyadh to participate in this prestigious event. The course was in excellent condition, the greens perfect and pin positions exceptionally challenging even for the well experienced players.

Steph Usher, a 1-handicap British golfer, shot 60 net to win the A-Division ( handicap 0-6) championship. He received a crystal trophy and Callaway golf bag as prizes. Another golf fanatic, Filipino Danilo Naval, claimed the runner-up position on 63 net and took home crystal trophy and Titleist wedge.

In the B-Division (7-12 ), veteran Saudi golfer Saad Al Otaibi and Indonesian diplomat-golfer Ambassador Abdurrahman Mohammad Fachir were neck and neck until the last hole and tied on 58. During the countback Saad won the championship while Abdurahman settled for the runner-up position. They received prizes of crystal trophies, Callaway bag and Titleist wedge.

In the C- Division (13-18), Filipino junior golfer and second-generation FGA member, Marwan Kalupas, posted the winning score of 60 with Noel Bautista completing a 1-2 Filipino finish when he returned a 63 for the runner-up spot.

Kalupas, son of veteran golfer Romy, received a crystal trophy and Callaway bag and Bautista a crystal trophy and Titleist wedge.

Winning the Ladies Division title was Korean Chong Hi Park while Marika Kovacik was the runner-up. .

The nearest to the pin awards were won by Einar Thorhallson and Andrew Hulston.

During the awarding ceremony Assistant Golf Manager Baby Joseph thanked the sponsor and players for their great support of the major event . Recreation Manager Mounir Melliti expressed his great delight at the successful staging of the tournament with the support of Mohamed Yousuf Naghi Motors BMW. Golf professionla Mohd. Anwar Naz, helped organize this great event.
