The reigning MVP and former Adamson Falcon standout Darius Guanzon led Butler to its their fifth straight win, 70-60 against Combibo I while Morsi Akad scored a career-high 44 points as Pepsi handed Samco its first defeat 104-95 in an exciting weekend of actions in the Perfetto Basketball Tournament 2013 organized by Industrial Sports Association (ISA) at Industrial City Dawa Office (ICDO) court in Industrial City Phase I on the outskirts of Jeddah.

Guanzon eluded all defenders thrown at him to score 25 points and used his passing ability to create scoring opportunities for his open teammates. Daredevil Dela Paz supported Guanzon with 17 points, Sacramento had 13 and Greason played well in defense with 13 blocks for Butler which remains unbeaten in the tournament.

Coach Eugene Romilla told his boys “the more we keep winning, the more Romy Motoc and Mohammad Ahmad (marketing manager at KIA Motors) will continue to give us a support, so just play great defense for us to have the best offense”.

Woodroc and Sadafco were deadlocked after the third canto of their match. Bolo and Prajes of Woodrock had a good game in the first three quarters combining for 28 points and Bascones surprised everyone when he entered the game with a bang scoring all of his 13 points in the final period as the trio gave Woodroc its fifth straight win, 75-65.

Raising its game to the next level, Pepsi Cola stopped the hitherto unbeaten Samco and avenged its first round defeat to the same squad.

Pepsi drew the best out of Akad who had a breakout game that saw him set a personal scoring record and claim best player of the game honors. Destresa added 20, Guimpatan had 15 and Nemitz Dangao effectively played tremendous defense against the former PBA player Boyet Bautista of Samco who had been taken out of his comfort zone.

Sadafco gained a weekend split beating struggling SMC 73-66. Gan, Malinao and Amador played well for Sadafco. The victory kept alive Sadafco’s hopes of qualifying for the next round. — With input from Janus Napuecas Gella
