RIYADH: The 9th Riyadh Triathletes event of the season was Biathlon No. 5, a 500m swim followed by a 4km run. Calm yet hot conditions at the Al Bustan Compound saw an excellent venue with an eight lane perfect pool and flat run course. Another large field of 94 athletes took part which included 9 junior participants completing various distances up to the full event.

Newcomer Mark Saggers stormed to victory with a very impressive 4km run time of 3minutes 55 seconds, a record time in recent years. Luca Giorgini once again took the honors in the swim with a time of 6 minutes 13 seconds for the 500m.

Other category winners were: Simon Charlton (male vet), Katy Taylor (female open and transition discipline winner), Mia McDowell (female vet), Paul McParland (male senior), Tennille Mclean (female junior full course), Vinnie Gillespie (male junior full course), Stella Gillespie (female junior distance), Caleb Rogers (male junior distance).

Once again a great crowd of spectators gave vocal encouragement to all participants. Set for Next weekend is a Duathlon event (Run 6km – Bike 28km – Run 4km), where the dynamics of those cyclists among the participants may well show who has been training hard and could moving up the leader board.
