RIYADH: The second Riyadh Triathletes Duathlon event of the season, a 6km run, 25km cycle and 4km run, took place in very hot conditions at Ranco Farm. It attracted 82 participants ranging in age from 7 to 65. Junior club members raced on a bike for the first time on a challenging and technical course. In all 60 completed the full course, with others completing various elements of the event.

Mark Saggers stormed to an 8 minute overall victory having destroyed the remainder of the field, taking first place on both run legs and second on the bike leg. Second place overall went to Club Chairman Stu Gillespie with his first podium place of the season. Kieran Scott rounded off the podium with third place although unable to match the stamina of the older guys ahead.

First Lady was taken by Katy Taylor with a commendable time in very hot conditions. First female veteran Emma Gillespie, female Juniors went to Tennille McLean (full course) and Stella Gillespie (short course) and first male juniors to Cameron McDermott (long course) and Vinnie Gillespie (short course). Other category winners were; Annie Wild (female master), Paul McParland (male senior), Anne Morrissey (female master). The bike leg was won by Geron Guanalo in a very fast time, despite a busy field. Other notable performances were from Al McDermott (soon after knee surgery), Rayan Al Hashim (youngest person to complete the run), Kenan Homsi (most value for money from event – very well done to finish the full distance).

Once again a great crowd of spectators gave vocal encouragement to all participants. Up next weekend is the last biathlon of the season (swim 700m – Run 6km).
