NRF, Manila Zago triumph in PEAK-JBL tourney

JEDDAH: NRF of coach Gerry Acosta beat IKEA 102-97 in the PEAK-JBL Basketball Tournament at Al Baik court in Khalidia District here.
NRF showed heart in the dying seconds of the game as IKEA never gave back in attacking NRF defense. Coach Gerry switched to high gear and instructed his players to play run and gun offense. Ali scored game high 32 points for NRF and was adjudged as the PEAK Sodas Sports best Player of the Game while Ahmed Penaranda top-scored with 27 points for IKEA.
This tournament is principally sponsored by PEAK Sodas Sports and Shoe Arena. The co-sponsors are Mandhoubiyah Islamic Propagation Office, Jeddah Dawah Center, Deepvision Advertising Company, Mousa Ignacio and Arab News.
Manila Zago of Loue Ghazi defeated STC 111-98 for back-to-back wins. STC tried to contain the enemy offense but Manila Zago’s inside game was unstoppable. Loue and Samson each had 21 points for Manila Zago and were adjudged as the JBL Best Players of the game while Lee led STC with 29 points.
Knights of coach Glenn beat Avengers 82-68. Both teams played defense well in the whole game. The Knights’ outside shooting exploded in the final quarter to break Avengers defensive wall. Carino collected 17 points for Knights and was adjudged as the PEAK Sodas Sports Best Player of the game while Geniza chipped in 19 points for Avengers.

Avengers defeated Leylati 93-70 in a game continued from Friday last week when sandstorm stopped play. Avengers playing with only 5 players wisely executed their offense in the final quarter. Leylati tried hard but missed important baskets. Geniza scored 30 points for Avengers and was adjudged as the JBL Best Player of the game while Hugo top-scored with 28 points for Leylati.

Magma Bloods beat BUPA 102-65. BUPA failed to contain the running game of Magma Bloods with their three point shooting. Alonto shot a career-high 34 points for Magma Bloods and was adjudged as the Arab News Best Player of the game while Mac Beki and Ruber Del Rosario had 26 and 19 points respectively for BUPA.

Khalidia Knights of Imet Villanueva defeated UDG 84-79 in the 40 & above category. UDG almost won the game but then lost steam in the dying seconds while Khalidia Knights displayed a never-say-die team work. Icban top-scored with 21 points for Khalidia Knights and was adjudged as the JBL Best Player of the game while Burgos had 28 points for UDG.

Desert Warriors of coach Nestor Capinpin beat Manila Hotdog 100-92 for their fourth straight win in the 40 & above division. Desert Warriors once again relied in their shooting ability to offset the dominance of Manila Hotdog in the shaded area. Hermogines scored a game-high 40 points for Desert Warriors and was adjudged as the PEAK Sodas Sports Best Player of the game while Creencia collected 24 points for Manila Hotdog.
