Qatar Airways bowlers soar to Team of Week title

On its sixth try Qatar Airways finally landed a Team of the Week title and announced its arrival as a legitimate contender in the FTBJ-ICBL 31st Conference bowling tournament at Jeddah Lanes here.
Bannered by core players of Jeddah Lanes team that finished first runner-up in the last conference Qatar Airways was virtually unchallenged while piloting its way to the top tally of 45 points during the sixth week of the five-man team Friday afternoon league event organized by Filipino Tenpin Bowlers of Jeddah.
Hidada Ltd., the second Team of the Week winner, was five points adrift of Qatar Airways on 40 points with league leader Nasser Al Hajri three points further back on 37.
Taurus RDLR pooled 34 points in fourth place on the day followed by Pin Slashers 29 and Jem Strikers 28. Sky Freight-TFC had a tempered performance after clinching the honors the previous week and settled for 18 points, the same output by Avengers as both teams tied for 8th and 9th. D’ Barkads, Lance & Thirdy and Oriana Akiera Sato were the last three teams on 15, 15 and 11 points in that order.
The individual race for Bowler of the Week went to Zaldy Bacero of Nasser Al Hajri and Charrie Guzman of Jem Strikers who fired the high series of 631 and 600 in the men’s and ladies division respectively.
In a steady display of firepower Qatar Airways, the Best Team in Uniform awardee, was second all the way for all three games and was first for overall output on 2,957 pinfalls.
In contrast QA’s rivals for honors, chief among them Pin Slashers and Al Hajri, had fluctuating fortunes. Pin Slashers went 1-11-6 and Al Hajri 6-1-5.
Nick Gozun and Edu Toledo bowled 610 and 587 to be at the helm of QA with Marie Gumpal on 558 and Jeanette Cerbito 556. Igna Salgado rolled games of 221-210 while Paul Allego added 201 to round out the scoring.
Amro Al-Amri fired the second-best score of 629 at the vanguard of Hidada, which also netted 598 from Pinky Acato, who narrowly missed what could have been her second Bowler of the Week plum, and 504 from Puri Parena. Rene Martinez, Romy Bunagan and Nanding Siasoco each did two games of 187-165, 201-204 and 164-188.
Randy Mata supported Bacero at Al Hajri on 584, while Gail Mata tallied 545 and Ester Jalata 518. The other contributions came from Ladio Gonzales 215-175 and Bonie Garcia 199.
The men’s trio of Priz Calidro, Nap Patayan and Raul de los Reyes paced Taurus with rounds of 587, 585 and 568.
There were also three players utilized from the distaff side in Susan Patayan 568, Fatima Jintarat 202-140 and Sharmaine Patayan 141.
For the second straight week the lane conditions made life difficult for the players with only four of them reaching the 600-series mark.
