The Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Endowments, Call and Guidance recently awarded projects worth a total of SR 30.41 million for the construction and renovation of mosques in various regions of the Kingdom. A number of Saudi contracting companies will implement the projects. The projects also involve the demolition and reconstruction of some mosques, according to Abdullah Al-Howaimel, undersecretary for administrative and technical affairs at the ministry.
He said the first contract is for the development and expansion of King Abdul Aziz Mosque in the Al-Kharj region at a cost of SR 4.68 million, while the second one is for the demolition and reconstruction of a number of mosques in Al-Ais region in Madinah at a total cost of SR 1.37 million.
There are contracts for the maintenance, cleaning and operation of the following: mosque and propagation center in Dammam (SR 2.8 million), mosques under group 2 (SR 8.66 million), mosques under group A in Al-Ahsa (SR 2.38 million), mosques under group 10 (SR 5.17 million), and mosques under group 5 in Jubail and group 23 in Dammam (SR 1.53 million). For all these projects, the period of implementation is three years.
Al-Howaimel said the ministry also awarded a project for the demolition and reconstruction of Madaya Mosque in Jazan at a cost of SR 1.98 million and a project worth SR 1.8 million for extending technical support to the department of maintenance and projects at the ministry’s branch in Asir province.
