In a scientific field trip to Al-Aqeer seaport in Al-Ahsa province, 24 female students from the Faculty of Arts at the University of Dammam recently explored natural phenomena and plant species that are indigenous to the area.

The Faculty of Arts in collaboration with the Department of Antiquities and Museums in Al-Ahsa Governorate organized the field trip to allow the female students the opportunity to practically apply what they studied in the biogeography and soil science courses.

Professor Iman Al-Qadi, the trip supervisor and the course instructor said the trip included visits to archaeological and historical sites in the area, such as the governorate center, the customs building, warehouses, the mosque, Al-Khan, and Abu Zhmul archaeological Tower, which is 1.5 km away from the port.

Al-Aqeer is situated on the west coast of the Arabian Gulf, 70 km east from Alyoun city. It is the main seaport in Al-Ahsa on the east coast of Saudi Arabia and was previously the Kingdom’s main port.

The port witnessed the conquests of the Islamic army legions that conquered places in India, Persia and stretching to the outskirts of the Chinese empire, as such it was also one of oldest trade routes and commercial centers associated with Al-Mashqar and Hajr markets.
