Archaeological experts from Poland will work in close coordination with local archaeologists to further develop mechanisms for research in archaeological survey and excavation.
The supreme tourism body, the Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities (SCTA), signed an agreement of joint scientific cooperation with the University of Warsaw in Poland for survey and archaeological excavation at the Aynona site in the Tabuk province.
The agreement was signed at the SCTA headquarters in the Kingdom by Hussain Abu Al-Hassan, vice president of SCTA for antiquities and museum, and Michael Jaulkowski, as representative of the University of Warsaw, an SCTA official said Thursday.
Earlier, commenting on the agreement, Al-Hassan said: “This agreement falls within the framework of SCTA’s strategy and plans that aim to take advantage of international expertise through scientific cooperation as well as enhance communication with international universities and consulting firms including the University of Warsaw."
Expressing his gratitude to the University of Warsaw for extending cooperation on the initiative, he pointed out that the aim of this agreement is to strengthen the relationship between SCTA and the University of Warsaw in the field of archaeological research and to exchange experiences to develop mechanisms that can be employed in the research and excavations in different parts of the Kingdom.
"My country considers the Kingdom to be one of the most important countries in the Middle East and it has constructive dialogue with the Kingdom," Jaulkowski underlined.
“We wish to expand our cooperation with the Kingdom, especially in the field of archaeology," the University representative said in a statement he issued after the agreement.
"The joint cooperation provided in this agreement will undoubtedly contribute to the strengthening of friendship and cooperation between the Kingdom and the Republic of Poland in various fields, including in the areas of excavation and the protection of cultural heritage,” he added.
