UN simulation conference a big hit with expat students

Al-Khozama International School hosted the second Peevees United Nations Simulation Conference with the support of Peevees Group of Schools at Alkhobar’s Rezayat Community Hall. The theme of the conference was “Sustainable Peace for the Sustainable Future.”
The conference was aimed at developing life skills such as decision-making, critical thinking, problem solving and negotiating.
Forty-eight students from the three Peevees schools – Al-Wurood International School-Jeddah, Al Yasmin International School-Riyadh and Al-Khozama International School-Dammam - participated in the conference. The students represented 12 nations — India, the United States, the UK, France, Portugal, Russia, Germany, China, Guatemala, Azerbaijan, Pakistan and Morocco.
Principal Dr. L.P. Ravi Kumar welcomed the gathering. The event was opened by Ashraff A.M., general manager, Peevees Group of Schools, by handing over the UN flag to the chairpersons of the “United Nations' General Assembly and Security Council.”
The General Assembly was chaired by Tariq Abdul Rahman, a student.
The topics discussed at the conference were sustainable paths of renewable energy, child labor and health care, major challenges in underdeveloped countries, a cooperative partnership in the 21st century for world peace, security, climate change, global security and cyberspace.
The participants exhibited tremendous speaking, listening and questioning skills. “It was indeed a pleasure to watch the future generation with such exuberant talent,” a parent attending the event remarked. The second session was the Security Council chaired by Miriam Bobby.
The chief guests for the concluding ceremony was E.K. Mohammed Shaffe, principal of International Indian School-Dammam. Sreedevi Menon, assistant director of programs, Peevees Group of Schools; K. Rahamathullah, principal, Al-Wurood International School; Razi Shaikpareeth, administration manager at Al-Khozama, and Timochin Hassan were present on the occasion and awarded the winners.
Mohammad Laiq Mohsin, Lancy D’Souza and Shaila Koya judged the event.
The program was conducted in a very professional and efficient manner by the social studies department with Sindhu P.V. as the coordinator.
The overall championship for the conference was awarded to Al-Wurood International School-Jeddah, with Al-Yasmin as the first runner-up, and Al-Khozama the second runner up.
The best student delegates were Montassir Abdullah Ibrahim (Al-Wurood) and Reya Baju (Al-Yasmin). The best student speakers were Hejaz Aslam (Al-Khozama) and Montassir Abdullah Ibrahim (Al-Wurood).
