The Civil Defense Department yesterday signed an agreement with King Saud University to make use of KSU's research capabilities to enhance the department's efficiency.
President Dr. Abdullah Al-Othman signed the agreement for KSU while Lt. Gen. Saad Al-Tuwaijri, director general of civil defense, inked the deal on behalf of his organization. Under the agreement, the King Abdullah Institute of Research and Strategic Studies at KSU will conduct consultancy studies required by the department in order to develop its activities and identify its training requirements.
"The institute will also conduct specialized training programs for the department," an official statement said, adding that the university would conduct academic programs for civil defense staff, offering them with high diploma in safety engineering.
The accord also covers cooperation between the Civil Defense Department and the College of Engineering to establish a joint research center, the statement said. A research chair related to civil defense will also be established. A joint team of experts will prepare a plan to implement the three-year agreement.
Gen. Al-Tuwaijri said the accord was aimed at strengthening the department's capabilities, making use of the university's research facilities.
“This is part of our efforts to establish effective partnership with academic and research institutions in the Kingdom to strengthen Civil Defense's capabilities to carry out its humanitarian mission in the best form,” he added.
