Using 10 fire-fighting units and other advanced equipment, the Civil Defense was able to contain fire that broke out yesterday at a wood-products factory at the Industrial City to the south of Jeddah, spokesman Lt. Col. Saeed Sarhan said.
Their quick action prevented the fire from spreading to other neighboring factories.
He said the fire was put out within two hours but the firemen continued to douse the embers to cool down the burned location.
The spokesman did not reveal the scope of the material damage nor if there were any human casualties. He said investigations are being made to specify the cause of the fire.
The spokesman said the firefighters surrounded the factory from all its four sides and used foam and water to battle the fire.
He said the director of Civil Defense Gen. Abdullah Jeddawi was on site and supervised the operation.
