SOFIA: A Bulgarian court on Tuesday ordered the extradition of a Dutch woman suspected of trying to join the Daesh group in Syria last month.

The 33-year-old woman was detained on a European arrest warrant upon entering Bulgaria through a border checkpoint with Turkey on Dec. 21.

She is wanted by the prosecution in the Dutch city of Eindhoven after police found a handwritten letter at her home saying that she was leaving to join the Daesh in Syria.

A Turkish patrol intercepted the suspect and turned her back before she could cross into Syria, according to the court in the southern town of Haskovo.

The woman on Tuesday confirmed her consent to be extradited.

Bulgaria, which shares a land border with Turkey, is a key crossing point for Europeans heading to join fighters in Syria or Iraq.

Border police intercepted and extradited several foreigners but the authorities can only detain travelers on the basis of European arrest warrants issued by their home countries.
