QUETTA: Unidentified gunmen late Friday stormed two passenger coaches in southwest Pakistan, killing at least 19 people, officials said.
“The attackers forced the buses to stop, abducted more than two dozen passengers, and then shot at least 19 dead,” said Ismail Ibrahim, a senior official in troubled Baluchistan province.
Sources told Geo News that the two buses, arriving from Quetta, were stopped near Mastung’s Khad Koocha area by unknown gunmen.
They handpicked several passengers from the buses and took them away with them, they added.
Balochistan Home Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti confirmed the incident and the death toll. He said most of the abducted passengers were Pashtoons.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif expressed grief over the incident saying that the government stands united with the victims’ families.
