LAHORE: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif arrived in Islamabad from London on Tuesday, putting an end to the speculations surrounding his return after members of Sharif family were linked to the leaks in the Panama Papers, Dawn reported.

Punjab’s Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif had said earlier the prime minister’s condition has improved after a medical check-up in London, Dawn reported.

The premier said the media should ask “conspiracy theorists” about the rumors they spread regarding his visit.

Answering a question about the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf’s (PTI) “Raiwind March,” he said the Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) aims to bring progress to the country and wanted the opposition to do the same.

“Dharna politics will only create chaos. Well-wishers of the country should not resort to such tactics which may harm or hinder the country’s progress,” the premier said.

PTI leader Imran Khan had called on the prime minister to resign over documents leaked from a Panama-based law firm that he said indicate that the premier’s sons own several offshore companies.

One dead in suicide attack

A suicide bomb attack outside a government office in northwest Pakistan on Tuesday left at least one person dead and 17 injured, officials said.

The attack took place in Mardan, about 50 kilometers (30 miles) northeast of the region’s main city of Peshawar.

Shahid Khan, a senior local police official, told AFP: “It was a suicide attack, the target was the office of Excise and Taxation.”

Faisal Shahzad, district police chief, confirmed the incident and said the toll stood at one dead and 17 injured, two of whom were in critical condition.

He said the bomber arrived at the office on foot and opened fire with a gun before detonating his explosives vest at the office gate.

“Eight to ten kilogrammes of explosive were used,” he said.

No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.

But the Pakistani Taliban and other militant groups regularly target military and civilian installations as part of an insurgency,sands of lives since it began in 2004.
