During a three-day health education campaign for diabetes in Taif, 9,736 blood sugar tests in an eight-hour period at 12 locations set a new Guinness World Record. The campaign was held under the theme 'Damak Asal' (Your Blood is Honey) and ran for three days. More than 350 medical and paramedical students participated in the campaign with witnesses from medical institutions in the Taif region.
The previous record was set at 7,042 tests.
Vice Dean of the College of Medicine and the General Supervisor of Colleges of Applied Medical Sciences and Pharmacy, Girls’ Section, Dr. Dalal Nemenqani said, “The amount of ambition, commitment and enthusiasm of the students was outstanding and superb. The students showed a mature attitude with a well-organized and smoothly implemented campaign plan with a high level of team spirit.”
Nemenqani said the participation from the public volunteers reflected the appreciation of the community for health promotion programs, especially on diabetes.
The educational and health promotion materials gave information on the importance of a healthy lifestyle, a proper diet and regular exercise to prevent diabetes. They also stressed the importance of an early detection of diabetes to prevent its complications.
Dr. Danya Rifqi from the College of Pharmacy described the campaign as a "pleasant experience" and "an opportunity to interact with students involved in extracurricular activities and the Taif community in general."
