More than 8.3 million people crossed the King Fahd Causeway that connects the Kingdom and Bahrain during the first half of this year, according to the bridge’s director-general. Badar Al-Otaishan said an average of 46,000 people crossed the causeway daily during this period.
He expected a considerable increase in the number of passengers using the causeway this year compared to last year. According to Al-Otaishan, the number of vehicles that crossed the causeway during the first half of this year reached almost 3.7 million, an average 17,900 vehicles daily. The political unrest in Bahrain last year resulted in a reduced number of passengers and vehicles crossing the causeway for the first time since it opened in 1986.
