Abdul Lateef Jamil (ALJ) Hospital got off to a rousing start with an emphatic 118-80 victory over Ibn Sina Hospital even as King Abdul Aziz Hospital (KAAH) rumbled to its second straight victory in the 2012 2nd Reinforced Basketball Tournament organized by Overseas Filipino Basketball League (OFBL) last weekend at Timeout Sports Academy gymnasium on Television Street, Ghulail District on the outskirts of Jeddah.
Unlike ALJ, which is carrying the colors of United Installment Sales. (UIS) Co., KAAH needed overtime to get past IMC 84-80 in overtime in the Inter-Hospital Division in this tournament supported by Al-Zugbi Sports Tailoring, Art’s Cuisine, Pinoy Photographers Club Jeddah and Timeout Sports Academy.
Veteran Teddy Jamahali proved he can still deliver at crunch time as he brought King Abdul-Aziz Hospital to another victory.
UIS, with the winning tandem of manager Jimmy Beltran and Camelo Mendez back at the helm, had it easy against the struggling IBN Sina which absorbed its second straight defeat.
Best Forward of the last conference, Paul Taguba, of UIS showed his shooting skills and daredevil moves to elude defenders to keep Ibn Sin at bay.
In the first quarter of the game, Escote led the scoring while Prado and Diata helped in rebounding for Sina but the eventual best player of the game Taguba never backed down and maintained his composure shooting two threes and converting three consecutive fast break layups.
Taguba’s teammates helped in defensive matters giving UIS a comfortable lead going to the third canto and never looked back.
IMC led the first two quarters with Nalagon waxing hot to score three 3-pointers and Ismael using his speed to the basket and Defensor working the middle with authority.
In the fourth quarter, both teams wanted to finish the game with a victory but Jamahali took charge for KAAH. He got consecutive fast breaks layups with a foul and converted the bonus free throws to tie the game at 71 to force overtime.
Jamahali was not done yet, conspiring with Hussain in overtime as KAAH sealed the victory.
PSI tasted victory against Bhara Cable 73-69 and the best player was Eric Mabarit with 21 points. Lat added 11 points while Sangalia and Baluyot took care of rebounding for PSI.
Sajco won its first the tournament, 85-71 against struggling Delta Water. The best player was Alberio who played well and scored 26 points while Aurel Tagara backed up him with 10 points as well as with his defensive and offensive rebounding prowess.
Al-Zamil escaped with a 75-64 triumph against Almarai boys. Jay Catubig was the best player of the game with 20 points. Kevin Catubig added 16 points.
GCT Port Terminal enjoyed another win this time against Mahmoud Gharib 62-59 after a five-minute extra period.
It was the third straight win for GCT. The best player of the game was Carreon who frolicked from beyond the arc to hit 21 points. Nava scored 18 points while Pascual and Abad helped in rebounds.
Also barging to the win column was Bupalicious, a 71-51 winner over struggling Hidada.
Tabao and King Soora both played well as they scored and combined for 43 points in charge of Bupalicious.
