JEDDAH, 16 February 2005 — Samsung, a global leader in the electronics industry, recently participated in the Milan Exhibition at the Palazzo Marino where the Torino 2006 Olympic Torch was revealed for the first time.
Designed by world-class Italian design company and an official supplier of Torino 2006, Pininfarina, the torch reflects the symbolic and historical features of the Torino 2006 Olympic Winter Games.
“Samsung is proud of its contribution in publicizing Italian heritage such as the arts, design, fashion and winter sport through its efforts as the Olympic partner for the Torino 2006 Olympic Winter Games and as a presenting partner of the Olympic Torch Relay,” Salim Majzoub, marketing and communication manager, Samsung Electronics, said. Torino 2006 will be the third Olympic Games to be held in Italy after the Cortina D’ampezzo 1956 Olympic Winter Games and the Rome 1960 Olympic Games. “Samsung reaffirmed its commitment to making Torino 2006 a global celebration of the Olympic mind and spirit by outlining its plans to executive various global marketing activities including consumer promotions to select ‘Samsung runners’ globally and locally.
Other activities include hospitality programs for its business partners, celebrities, media and consumers both from Italy and around the world. Moreover, Samsung will encourage not only public figures such as former athletes and Olympic medallists, actors, musicians and fashion leaders, but also inspirational community leaders, volunteers and people who have overcome hardships — all those who represent the Olympic spirit — to participate in the Olympic Games during the Torino Olympic Torch Relay,” Majzoub said.
For Athens 2004, Samsung torchbearers from all around the world included athletes and celebrities. Italian athletes and celebrities also joined the first-ever global Torch Relay as Samsung Torchbearers when the flame visited Rome.
The Olympic Torch Relay for Torino 2006 will commence in Rome on Dec. 8 and last until Feb. 10, 2006 — crossing all regions and provinces of Italy and covering about 11,300 km of the Italian Peninsula with a total of about 10,000 torchbearers. Samsung, a presenting partner of the Torino 2006 Olympic Torch Relay, will select more than 1,900 torchbearers among them.
