CHESTNUT HILL, Mass., 2 March 2005 — Antonio Graves had 13 points to lead a balanced Pittsburgh scoring attack, as the 24th-ranked Panthers stopped No. 5 Boston College’s 19-game home win streak with a convincing 72-50 victory at Conte Forum.
Chris Taft finished with 12 points and eight rebounds while Chevon Troutman recorded 11 points and seven rebounds for Pittsburgh (19-7, 9-6 Big East), prevailed in a must-win situation. Carl Krauser compiled 10 points, seven rebounds and seven assists in the triumph.
Craig Smith posted a game-high 22 points for the Eagles (23-3, 12-3), who have split their last six games following a tremendous 20-0 start to the season.
In Spokane, Wash., Ronny Turiaf scored a game-high 22 points and grabbed eight rebounds, leading 12th-ranked Gonzaga to an 87-60 demolition of Northern Colorado on Senior Night from the McCarthey Athletic Center. Sean Mallon chipped in 17 points and J.P. Batista added 16 for the Bulldogs (23-4), who ended the regular season with 10 straight wins. Gonzaga, the West Coast Conference champions, won’t see action until the semifinals of the WCC Tournament on Sunday, March 6.
Kirk Archibeque led the Bears with 17 points. Sean Tabbi contributed 10 points in a losing cause, as Northern Colorado (8-20) suffered its second consecutive loss and fourth in six games.
In Austin, Texas, Lawrence McKenzie had 16 points and David Godbold added 14 to lead the 20th-ranked Oklahoma Sooners past the Texas Longhorns, 74-58, in a Big 12 match-up at the Frank Erwin Center. Terrell Everett and Taj Gray chipped in 12 and 10 points, respectively, for the Sooners (22-6, 11-4 Big 12), who have won five in a row.
