RIYADH, 26 April 2005 — Universal Forwarders claimed a big fish for a victim as they stunned Herfy’s 65-63 in the Filipino Community Basketball League (FCBL) Inter-Company Reinforced Six-Feet Below Friday Morning Tournament at the Jeraisy Staff Compound court on Exit 7 here.
Jericho dela Cruz spoiled a potential Herfy celebration when he completed a three-point play in the waning seconds to give Universal a big win in the tournament.
With the game clock down to the last 38 seconds and the score tied at 62-62
Michael Constantino split his free throws giving Herfy a 63-62 edge.
In the the return play, dela Cruz was at the right place on the right time to convert two crucial points and bonus shot awarded to him off a foul.
Darius Cac finished with 18 points and 17 rebounds while Constantino had 16 points and 12 rebounds for Herfy who had led for the most part of the game. Besides dela Cruz, Universal Forwarders also leaned on Edwin Sarmiento and Dennis Quiambao and the veteran expertise of Richard Hadlocon, Noel Ramos, Arnold Bansil and Vic Dizo. The Hapco team of Doy Robles and Ziad Khattar came armed to the teeth and whipped Saudi Pioneer 86-46.
Narciso Sortejas broke the ice in this match where Enrique Sodario spearheaded Hapco with 38 big points, the highest individual score so far in this league followed by Albert Songcuya, Dickson Balingbing and Clifford Villanueva.
The tournament is is organized by the FCBL and FCBR committees Ed Tamayo, Ernie Dela Cruz, Nestor Carlos, Joel Borre, Robert Pineda, Mohd. Villamena, Bogs Lloremas, Mon Alvarado, Boyet Liboon, Greg Vasquez, Boy Jacinto, Rodel Lavarias, Rey Cruz, Pumar Quillo and Jhun Bautista. Alvin Mendoza is the games play-by-play announcer.
