Qassim Gov. Prince Faisal bin Bandar has lambasted the Buraidah Municipality for its poor performance and warned that negligent officials would be punished. “The time has come for accountability,” he said.
Addressing an open forum at King Khaled Community Center on Tuesday, the governor urged immediate steps to improve services. “We should not wait for catastrophes to happen that endanger the lives of citizens.” Prince Faisal said he would expose negligent officials and contractors to the media. “Many services provided by the municipality are not satisfactory. We want proposals to improve services and we don’t need praise,” the governor said.
He asked why new contracts were given to companies that had not implemented projects properly in the past. He cited many municipal projects for unsatisfactory performance. “We have also noticed a lack of coordination between various departments.”
He said he was ready to discuss the municipality’s shortcomings in the presence of the media. “I know that members of the media are present in this meeting and they will take my harsh criticism of the poor municipal service to the public,” the governor said.
Prince Faisal, who has been the region’s chief administration officer for the last 21 years, decried the noncooperation of some government departments. “These departments have been waiting for a catastrophe to happen. We will never allow that,” he asserted.
He said all regional governors would be accountable before the king and the interior minister if they show negligence in extending services to citizens. He urged the municipality and other government departments to give contracts to efficient companies.
