Etihad Etisalat (Mobily) announced the success of dropping a high-capacity submarine cable (Asia-Africa-Europe-I) in Jeddah. It is 25,000 km long and will connect Far East countries to Europe through the MEA.
Minister of Communications and Technology Mohammed Al-Suwaiyel was present at the submarine cable launching ceremony.
Deif Allah bin Ahmed Al-Zahrani, vice governor of the Communications and Information Technology Commission for competition and legal affairs, Mobily CEO Ahmed Farrukh as well executive officers in the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and Mobily were among others present.
Farrukh noted that the success of Mobily in signing the submarine cable project agreement with a number of major world operators exemplified the success of Mobily in the Kingdom.
This marks a further improvement in the Kingdom’s communication network infrastructure as the Internet capacity and the scope of informational exchange and communications traffic will be augmented between the countries.
This will contribute directly to increasing Internet speeds for users as also meeting the growing demand for various telecommunication services and data to Mobily customers in particular and neighboring countries in general which is consistent with Saudi Vision 2030.
Mazied Al-Harbi, executive technology officer at Mobily, gave a presentation on the submarine cable, its characteristics, the importance of the Kingdom's location and its role as a link of building this submarine cable, which is 25,000 km long and connects the Far East countries, starting from Hong Kong, through the East Asian countries like Malaysia and Thailand then linking them to India and Pakistan through Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar and Oman.
The cable then passes the countries of Africa (Djibouti, Egypt) reaching Europe (Greece, Italy and France) with minimum possible delay and high transfer capacities up to more than 40 terabits per second, which will contribute significantly to the growth of business in the states that pass by.
