Riyadh Gov. Prince Sattam, presided over the third joint meeting of the High Commission for Riyadh Development (HCRD), the Board of the Riyadh Region and the Municipal Council of the City of Riyadh as well as the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Riyadh.
The high-profile meeting, organized by HCRD, was attended by HCRD Deputy Chairman Prince Mohammed bin Saad bin Abdulaziz and Chairman of the High Commission on Tourism and Antiquities Prince Sultan bin Salman.
Prince Sattam called on participating agencies to contribute with effective opinions and proposals that would contribute to the development of the city and the Riyadh region.
He said: "I am pleased to welcome everyone to this blessed two-yearly meeting and hope it will be a renewed opportunity to enhance communication among us.”
Prince Sattam added that this event also addressed and reviewed what has been achieved, and what is under construction or plan, both in the city of Riyadh and in the region in general.
"This meeting is being organized based on the principle of consultation and dialogue,” the Prince elaborated, pointing out that direct dialogue and joint action is one of the very foundations of the HCRD. The commission aims to share insights and ideas that would develop your city and neighborhood.
Ibrahim bin Mohammed Al-Sultan, head of the HCRD’s Center for Projects and Planning, said that the meeting had briefed the participants on follow-up programs for various projects in Riyadh, which aim to achieve integration and coordination among projects in the Riyadh region and among the implementing constructors. It also aims to overcome obstacles that the regional development may face.
He pointed out that the results of inventory projects in Riyadh within the program showed that the region is witnessing 2,980 projects, valued at a total cost of SR 264 billion, and 347 projects for public utilities at a cost of SR 57 billion.
Additionally, there are 804 projects for educational services at a cost of SR 54 billion, 127 for health services at a cost of SR 8.5 billion and 577 projects for the transport sector at a cost of SR 24 billion.
Al-Sultan said that the value of the economic development sector projects had reached 42 projects at a cost of SR 43 billion, and the public service projects and housing had reached 998 projects costing SR 15 billion
He added that the ratio of completed projects in the region had soared to 21 percent of the total value of projects, while the rate of projects under completion had reached 75 percent. Delayed projects are only two percent of the total, the official said, while the stalled projects do not exceed the proportion of two percent of the total costs of the project in the region.
The meeting also showcased a presentation on the overall plan for public transport in Riyadh, which consists of six main axes at a total length of 181 kilometers of railway for electric trains, and constructing a network parallel for buses to be divided into four different levels that will cover the entire city, integrated with the train system.
Al-Sultan also briefed the meeting on the regional plans for Riyadh, which aim to promote comprehensive and balanced development in the provinces of the region.
The presentation showed the results of the comprehensive strategic plan for the city of Riyadh, which included an explanation for the most outstanding achievements of the scheme over the past nine years that followed the approval, including the achieved 65 percent of the overall policies and 75 percent of its programs and projects.
The presentation addressed a number of features drawn up by the strategic plan for future development in all sectors of the city until the year 2028, and the operational plan of the scheme, which includes 100 programs and projects and dozens of operational policies.
