More than SR 524 million has so far been collected under the national fundraising campaign for the Syrians. The amount includes SR 22 million collected by STC from its customers through SMS.
The campaign, initiated by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah, is supervised by Interior Minister Prince Ahmed. The campaign received tremendous response from Saudis as well as expatriates.
Khaled Ghanim, CEO of STC, commended Saudis and expatriate workers for their good response to the king’s call to help their Syrian brethren.
“Saudi Telecom Company has been extending technical support to the fundraising campaign in order to help the needy Syrian people,” Ghanim said.
The campaign committee said total cash donations received for the Syrians had exceeded SR 524 million until Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the first convoy of 43 trucks carrying relief supplies for the Syrians has reached Jordan’s border with Syria. Saudi Ambassador to Jordan Fahd bin Abdul Mohsen Al-Zaid, accompanied by senior Jordanian officials, received the convoy.
Al-Zaid later visited Zaatari refugee camp on the Jordan border. He reviewed the situation in the camp and met with refugees.
