RIYADH: Nine Filipinos who valiantly fought for peace, freedom and democracy, were commemorated at a “National Heroes Day” celebration hosted by Ambassador Ezzedin Tago, at the Philippine embassy on Aug. 27.
The nine heroes were chosen by the National Heroes Committee and included Dr. Jose P. Rizal, Andres Bonifacio, Emilio Aguinaldo, Apolinario Mabini, Marcelo H. del Pilar, Muhammad Dipatuan Kudarat, Juan Luna, Melchora Aquino and Gabriela Silang. Attaché Yvonne Mofar called the overseas Filipino workers in the Kingdom modern day heroes. “They left their respective families behind in the Philippines to provide for their needs,” she said.
