Displaying the heart of a true champion in the most trying of situations, Grain Silos scored a come-from-behind semifinal victory against the great rival Rio-Tayar 86-79 in the 2012 Perfetto Basketball Tournament organized by Industrial Sports Association (ISA) at Industrial City Dawa Office (ICDO) court in Industrial City Phase I on the outskirts of Jeddah.
Despite lacking a key player, Rio-Tayar had a great moment when it led for three quarters against the defending champ Grain Silos in a pulsating semifinal game.
Batioco, MVP of the last conference, sat out the game because of some important reasons but still the other players stepped up and Grain Silos led by 10 points as Aries Macaspac and company struck for Grain Silos in the last minute of the third canto.
Allan Ramos came off the bench to hit a booming three point shot and De Guzman hit a basket to cut the lead to 5 points at the end of the quarter.
In the final period, GS boys scored three consecutive fast breaks points to grab the lead but Rio-Tayar rallied and tried to match up the quickness and the intensity of GS boys until in the last two minutes of the game. De Guzman converted all three free throws after being fouled from beyond the three-point zone while Best Player Macaspac added 7 points in the fourth period and finished with 30 points for Grain Silos.
Mohammad and Pupos combined for 40 impressive points to lift Tawzea past Perfetto 85-81 and into the final.
In the first two quarters Tawzea starring Estrella and Pupos was in control but in the third canto Perfetto seized momentum to lead by 59-57 at the end of the period courtesy of Teddy Jamahali, Hussain and Boyce.
In the final quarter, Perfetto neutralized Pupos in the scoring but Mohammad, named best player of the game, maintained his composure and exploded with 10 of his 20 total points while Bien added 8 of his 15 to seal the game for Tawzea.
Also reaching the final were Butler boys who remained unbeaten as they shut down Al Tayar in a pulsating 85-80 victory.
In the last two quarters even though Guanzon exploded with 13 points in the third canto, Tayar never gave up and the game was tied at 66 after the third period.
Best Player Guanzon took charge for Butler in the fourth period scoring 9 of his 30 total points and Balatan also scored 8 of his 13 in the period.
