DUBAI: Masked gunmen shot and wounded on Monday a Saudi border guard in the eastern district of Qatif where tensions have been running high between security forces and protesters, police said.
“The border guard was leaving work when he was struck by a bullet fired from a car carrying two masked men,” said Major Ziad Al-Rukaiti, the police spokesman in Eastern Province. He said the attack took place in Tarout Island.
The security man was wounded in his left leg but is in stable conditions, while the assailants managed to escape, he said.
Security sources, however, said the attack appeared not linked to protests.
