It is reported that a famous Swedish company withdrew meatballs from sale in 14 European countries after tests in the Czech Republic found traces of horsemeat in a batch made in Sweden. Leading supermarkets in the UK including Tesco and Sainsbury have also withdrawn beef products from shelves after they were found to contain horsemeat. It is learned that some leading restaurants in Britain have served horse steaks to their customers. Now, we are in for more shocking news from South Africa; the report says that donkey meat has been sold as burgers and sausages there. The same report says that a raid conducted in Kenyan butcheries found donkey meat being sold. One wonders what’s next on the menu for the gullible customers! The good news is that this meat issue has now turned many Europeans into vegetarians. — S.H. Moulana, Riyadh
