Getting personal

I failed to understand the purpose of the article “Tied up in knots” (May 2) by S. N. M. Abdi. Why is the writer so concerned about the international dress code? India is a sovereign country with its own distinct culture. If Indian Premier Narendra Modi is not following others and setting his own standard, then why create a fuss?
After all, Gandhiji after returning from South Africa never adhered to any dress code.
Writers should try to focus on the core issues. Dressing style of a leader is a personal matter and should not bother anybody. We should try to concentrate on the wrong policies of the Modi government and their impact on the country’s socioeconomic conditions. I am not fond of Modi. As a matter of fact, I abhor his communal mindset and his party’s policies. But I feel we should avoid discussing personal issues.
