RIYADH: The heads of various bodies in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) responsible for fighting corruption and malpractice will be meeting at the GCC headquarters here this week.

The announcement was made by the National Commission for Anti-corruption, Nazaha, in its statement on Saturday. The conference will discuss proposals prepared by an ad hoc committee at the GCC level.

According to the Nazaha statement, participants will deal with topics on how to enhance cooperation and share expertise between agencies responsible for protecting integrity at the GCC level.

Among the major items on the agenda are a GCC proposal to join the UN Convention against Corruption as a regional organization. They will also discuss proposals for promoting public integrity among GCC member states.

GCC Secretary-General Dr. Abdullatif Al-Zayani recently held discussions during a meeting in Munich with Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) Fatou Bensouda, Foreign Minister of Romania Lazar Cumanesco, Foreign Minister of Norway Borge Brende and Foreign Minister of Macedonia Nikola Poposki.

They explored the scope of joint cooperation and ways of enhancing them, in addition to discussing current political developments in the region of common concern, as well as efforts by the ICC to pursue crimes against humanity, genocide and war crimes.

The ongoing conflicts in the world and their impact on peace and security globally also figured into the discussions. Al-Zayani also participated in a panel discussion on energy security as part of the Munich Security Conference agenda.
