The National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) has exposed financial and administrative violations at the water directorate in Jazan.
A source at the commission said a citizen has tipped them off about a number of violations he witnessed at the directorate.
NACC assigned a delegation to review the complaint and investigate the alleged violations.
The source said the commission discovered irregularities regarding the distribution of public funds. Money was used to establish recreational facilities that the commission described as excessive.
It was discovered the directorate had also purchased vehicles that exceeded the number of its employees. The commission found top officials had misused their authority and given jobs to friends and relatives and made purchases directly from certain companies, breaching government purchase and competition rules.
The commission, according to the source, discovered evidence of abuse of administrative authority and found that certain positions remain unfilled while unskilled staff were appointed to do their tasks.
After completing its investigation, the commission forwarded its case file to the Bureau of Investigation and Public Prosecution so it could start prosecution.
