Aligarh Muslim University Alumni Jeddah has recently organized a reception in the honor of Safdar H. Khan, chairman of the Minorities Commission in Delhi and Mumtaz Ahmad, former director general of police in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.
On behalf of Aligarh Muslim University Old Boys Association (AMUOBA) Alumni Committee’s President Farzan Rizvi praised Safdar Khan for his unhindered and continuous efforts for the progress and uplifting of minorities in general and Muslims in particular.
Safdar Khan explained about the role and responsibilities of the Minorities Commission, Delhi and the steps that have been taken during his tenure. These include the release of prisoners held for petty offenses, the advancement of girls’ education, and the appointment of Urdu teachers, a survey of Muslim girls and the reimbursement of tuition fees. He also assured the community to do everything possible in his capacity to assist Indian expats in the Kingdom.
Khan also briefed the audience about the general awareness program of the commission that will help the minorities in the long run.
Mumtaz Ahmad shared his thoughts and experiences during his 34 years of service in the police force and advised Muslims to come forward and join the force. He called for active participation to uplift the weaker section of society in general and Muslims in particular.
