India’s current ambassador to Yemen, Dr. Ausaf Sayeed, has been named as his country’s consul general in Chicago.
According to diplomatic sources, he is expected to take up the US assignment in July. He will succeed Mukta Tomar.
Chicago has a large Indian community.
A product of the famed Indian Foreign Service, Sayeed was posted as consul general in Jeddah in the past (from August 2004 to July 2008), and there was a considerable expectation that his next posting would be in Saudi Arabia.
A gold medalist from Osmania University, Sayeed belongs to a Hyderabad family with rich literary credentials. His father, Awaz Sayeed, was a well-known modern Urdu short-story writer and essayist.
