Border Guard patrols seized 4.85 million amphetamine pills at the Haditha checkpoint in the Al-Jouf province on Wednesday.
According to a spokesman for the General Directorate of the Border Guards at Haditha, a Saudi driver coming from Jordan was carrying the pills. He was arrested and his vehicle impounded. The man was also carrying a machine gun and a revolver with live ammunition.
Extensive use of amphetamine tablets leads to delusions and paranoia. The pills are some times used as an alternative for Captagon tablets.
It was reported in some regional media that one of the biggest drug busts in the world in recent times was in November 2011 when more than 200 kg of amphetamine worth $11 million was seized from an Iranian ship by the United Arab Emirates anti-drug combat officers.
