The Ports Authority (PA) has announced the readiness of commercial ports in the Kingdom to receive cement and clinker. The announcement comes in compliance with Custodian of the Two Holy Mosque King Abdullah’s initiative to import 10 million tons of cement in the next three years to end the current shortage.
Abdul Rahman Aldrais, a PA spokesman, said the authority allocated 17 docking stations, with four each in Jeddah, Dammam and Jubail and one in Yanbu, Dhuba and Jazan. The authority allocated sufficient storage space to temporarily store and handle cement and clinker. Storage techniques will meet environmental requirements, said Aldrais.
“The authority agreed with the Southern Province Cement Company to import cement and clinker through Jazan Port.
The company pledged to use machines made to handle material for the safety of the environment,” he said.
The authority also signed an agreement with the Yanbu Cement Company to import clinker. The company will comply with the authority’s instructions in this regard to protect the environment. All the ports were directed to facilitate the work of the companies and allocate sufficient space for storage and loading.
