Even before Geneva 2 conference over Syria gets under way, a cloud of uncertainty is hanging over its outcome. The Syrian opposition seems to be completely divided to impress upon the international community for its intervention to remove the brutal regime.
The recent gains of the regime in Al-Qussayr amid continuing Russian, Chinese and Iranian support to Assad and West’s criminal silence have further complicated the issue. It is quite doubtful that the opposition would agree to a political settlement.
The major problem for the success of any attempt to resolve the Syrian catastrophe is the countless and scattered factions of the opposition. — Rashid Mahmoud, Jeddah
